Mindener passenger ship service

In Minden a large attraction of the north german area is situated: The most important water way cross of the world connects the Weser with the central land channel. It is approximately in the center between Rhine and Elbe as central point.

Because of the crossing with the Weser the channel water level is approx.. 13 meters over the Weser. Embedded into a high dam the channel crosses the Weser with the merged channel bridges.

In 1998 the water way cross was extended with a comprehensive new bridge , in order to eliminate a traffic "needle eye", start-up took place via the Federal Minister of Transport. The "old" bridge was placed under monument protection and remained existing additionally.

Emperor William monument

The monument was built in emperor Wilhelm I (1797 - 1888) honour.

The monument is edified from Porta sandstone. The temple-like building of the tripartite monument consists of a ring terrace, canopy and statue. The statue shows the emperor bare-headed, the left hand is based on the broadswoart, the right hand is raised - the Westphalia country lying before it blessing. The monument is 88 m high.

The emperor William monument has become the landmark of the region.

Castle Bueckeburg with mausoleum

Visit castle Bueckeburg, which reflects the nearly thousand-year old history and the cultural life of the counts of Schaumburg-Lippe and later sovereign of Schaumburg-Lippe.

 

 

Helicopter museum

By the Light Aircraft Group of Achum created helicopter museum, which reflects the history of the helicopters impressively. Go by the rooms of the museum and make a time journey from the beginnings of the aviation until today.

Dinosaur park Muenchehagen

Exactly at the place, where approx. 140 million years ago enormous herds of dinosaur lived, you can experience today a 2.5 km long round way through the "monument Saurierfaehrten" with over 150 full-scale dinosaurs. Visit Germany's largest dinosaur open air museum.

 

 

 

 

Glassworks Gernheim

In Petershagen on the bank of the Weser Gernheim is situated - a factory place from the early 19. Century. Untill today the worker's houses, the former manufacturer mansion, the administration, a pub, the gimp's house with the factory school and the landmark Gernheims: the conical glasswork tower of 1826 are still in good condition.

The Westfalian Industrial Museum reconstructed the historical melting furnace and equipped it for show productions with new technology. Gaffers manufacture glasses and bottles with the whistle from red-hot compound just like 100 years. A pulisher and an engraver improve the glasses after cooling off. The pieces are sold in the museum shop.

Potts Park

Each year many visitors arrive at the original leisure and experience park Potts park in Minden Duetzen. Joining in and laugh together, that is the slogan here. In the large park you can find water attractions, drives, rapid sliding pleasure. There are lots of things for an interactive amusement.

Particularly children do not know boredom in potts park. Fun A whole day long and pay only once. By the way, this is unique to potts park: Giant's dwelling, worth seeing toilet house , mirror cathedral in the mirror house, button museum and the funny pig travel.

Museum railway Minden

"For the passenger train towards Hille please enter and close the doors", it sounds like this nowadays again on the platform, when the historical steam engine begins its travel with numerous expectant passengers.
